ENTREPRENEURSHIP

ENTREPRENEURSHIP. When Major Clopton Wingfield in spring of 1874 created and patented his first version of the game of tennis, then called “Sphairistike” (Ball game in Greek) in Great Britain, he became the first real entrepreneur of our sport. He envisioned the game being constructed on croquet courts, providing people with healthy exercise and social amusement. His vision, commitment, business mentality, development and innovation concepts included a box set with rubber balls, a net, poles, court markers, rackets, and an instruction manual. His commercial attitude & awareness lead him to realize that the name Sphairistike was a complicated pronunciation, so he changed it to “Lawn Tennis”. Recognized as the inventor of Lawn Tennis, he wrote two books: “The Book of the Game” in 1873 and “The Major’s Game of Lawn Tennis” in 1874.We are leaning forward on his vision & his inspiring & motivating spirit with a sense of innovation, business development and high impact for all who play it, develop it and make it grow. In tennis we must create new opportunities by returning to that entrepreneurial, visionary and inclusive spirit that Major Winfield had when he invented the game of tennis. He built on what he already knew & adjusted the model. His legacy is in our hands & our efforts will bring more innovation and opportunities to tennis. The spirit of WINFIELD is here in our CHALLENGE. It is with us!!The Puzzle will be completed tomorrow, Thursday 13th, 2021!!Believe your eyes. Believe your ears. Believe your voice. Believe in YOU.
